ROCKstar of the Month of July: Myke Delano (DJ Flightz)

Our ROCKstar of the month for July is none other than Myke Delano! Also known by his stage name DJ Flightz, Myke is one of our finest DJs and has been a part of our team for about four years now. Along with DJing, Myke also works part-time in the shop as a Rock The House technician.

RTH_DJFlightz

Myke’s favorite part about working for Rock The House is the wide variety of events he gets to work and performed. However, when we asked Flightz what his favorite RTH event has been, it’s not very easy for him to pick. Myke tells us, It’s hard to decide, but I think that Shaker’s 2015 and 2016 Proms are my favorites.”

A Few Fun Facts About Myke Delano:

  • Guilty pleasure song? None; Myke says he’s not embarrassed by anything when it comes to music.
  • Pre-event snack? Beef Jerky, Skittles, and Redbull.
  • Post event snack? Pretzels.
  • What is your biggest fear? Not being able to hear… losing my hearing would be horrible. Sound puts me at peace.
  • What’s your favorite Rockstar Quote? “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” – Bob Marley
  • What artists are your biggest musical influences? A-Trak and Drake
  • Favorite recommendation on SnapChat or Instagram? Dillion Francis is pretty funny. Sometimes a bit too ridiculous, but still funny.
  • What got you into DJing? My fraternity. I would just randomly DJ and play music since I was always a music junkie. I also loved having the newest music and just always playing it for people.

RTH_Flightz2

Although Myke loves DJing for Rock The House, he says that his dream job would be owning a cigar bar and lounge, with one of our lead entertainers Travis Rose as a stand-up comedian. However until that day comes, Myke is always prepared to tackle any event, and can always be counted on to keep the people dancing!

“I attribute much of Myke’s success to his continued dedication to the art of DJing. He has always possessed raw talent but it’s now evident that the practice Myke puts in outside of work has elevated his performances year to year.  Myke’s maturation as an entertainer has been awesome to witness. Regardless of the type of event or demographic, he has an uncanny ability to read a crowd and keep the energy on the dance floor rocking all night. DeLano in an invaluable asset to Rock The House and we are super fortunate to have him as one of our lead entertainers. A great employee, an incredible DJ, but ultimately, he is an even better person!” – Travis Rose, Talent Director

Rock The House Goes to China

Five members of our leadership team, (Matt, Jeff, Jeff, Ryan and Steve) had the incredible opportunity to visit Prolight + Sound Guangzhou, one of the world’s largest and most influential pro audio and lighting trade fairs. It took place on 29 February – 3 March on China’s Import and Export Fair, where the team toured 13 convention halls filled with the most robust collection of audio visual equipment we could ever imagine.

Our team’s first trip across the globe marks an important milestone for our business and highlights one of our corporate values: to experience and learn as much as we can about our industry.

1476148_1071619722900485_3294919010709240771_n

While the guys have lots of cultural nuances to reflect on, the sometimes frighteningly, fast cab rides, the incredible bamboo toothpicks and the unexpected feeling of being right at home, the overall takeaway was that while technology makes global communications and business so much easier, NOTHING beats meeting people face-to-face.

Seeing a demonstration of a new product or sharing a meal with a friend is always better in person… even if you don’t speak the same language.

Here’s a list of some of our favorite takeaways.

Food: It brings us together

Screen Shot 2016-03-20 at 8.07.05 PM

From enjoying a once in a lifetime 28-course meal in Japan to kicking it back with a beer at an Irish pub, we had some of the best meals of our life. Also, according to Jeff K, “Pork dumplings can be consumed at any meal of the day!!!!” Point taken.

Buying from China isn’t what you think…

Screen Shot 2016-03-20 at 8.07.53 PM

“The perceived poor quality of Chinese products is relative. here are super high priced (and high quality) vendors, and there are bottom feeders. You get what you pay for… but if you can cut out the middle man, you win.”  – Matt

Service, Service Service.

Screen Shot 2016-03-20 at 8.09.19 PM

“To go along with the above, Chinese salespeople have incredible -follow up and guest service.  If US sales people followed their lead, they would certainly sell more.” – Jeff D.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

Screen Shot 2016-03-20 at 8.10.11 PM

“The spirit of an entrepreneur is a magical thing in any country and any language” – Ryan

Of course, there is so much to learn about other cultures and countries. However, the coolest thing about this trip was not about realizing how different things are on the other side of the world, but rather, how connected we can be.

Thank you, China for a fantastic trip. Now, back to work!

Wedding Songs That Have Stood the Test of Time

Did You Know: When asked, most guests say that the thing they remember most about a wedding is the entertainment.

MakingTheMoment_RR_W_526

Imagine this: brides and grooms put so much thought into everything from decor to desserts. All of that effort could all be dismissed if the wedding music leaves much to the imagination. That’s why we have classic wedding music that is proven to get people on their feet, celebrating the bride and groom.

Screen Shot 2016-03-03 at 3.16.48 PM

Our instagram followers had lots to say about which song they’d pick for their first dance.

Just like the color scheme, the concept and the flowers, the playlist at a wedding has the ability add personality to any given dance party. Before you choose to go totally off the beaten path with your playlist, consider some classic favorites as part of the celebratory night.

Below, our team has pulled together a list of wedding music that has never, ever gone out of style.

Are there any songs we missed? Sound off on our facebook page!

6 Ways to Heat Things Up at Your Event this Winter

sjlhfblsjerbg

Everyone loves an awesome winter event. From beautiful winter weddings to holiday get-togethers, we love a great reason to get up, dress up, and warm up in even the coldest winter months. However, tackling the daunting task of dealing with the weather can be tricky. Here are some tips to take with you next time you plan to party in the winter.

Invest in Valet Services

It may seem simple but consider allowing your guests to bypass the outside altogether! While valet is the popular option at black-tie events, it may be worth the spend in the middle of winter in order to give your guests the cozy experience they want.

Choose A Tropical Concept

Nothing warms the soul more than the illusion of being somewhere else. Allow your event’s little details set the scene of warmth, sun and FUN. Choose tropical-themed novelties, a summer music playlist and green screen, beach-themed photos that make guests forget about what’s happening outside.

Research Red Hot Rentals

Does your venue have an incredible outdoor space that seems useless in the winter? Think again. Consider renting outdoor heaters or even a fireplace to set the mood and offer a cozy, outdoor option for friends who need fresh air.

Light it up.

Relax, sit back and let the lights speak for themselves. Rock the House will help you conceptualize a lighting design that will be sure to heat things up even in the coldest winter months.

Choose Cold-Weather Cocktails

Consider recruiting a seasoned bartender to conceptualize perfect seasonal cocktails. The best way to get your guests in the partying mood is to give them tasty, soothing winter elixirs to warm away the winter blues. From hot cocktails to drinks with a tropical twist, choose your specialty drinks wisely and your guests will warm up in no time.

Get Guests Moving

While setting the scene is so important, the very best way to heat things us is to get guests moving! Party Motivators, amazing games, novelties and the perfect amount of cocktails will help guests put on their dancing shoes and forget all about the potential blizzard outside.

RTH Brings 2016 Today’s Bride Show To Another Level!

We loved the 2016 Today’s Bride January bridal shows at The John S. Knight Center and Cleveland’s IX Center! The energy level at every show was beyond contagious. From attendees to exhibitors, everyone genuinely wanted to be there (us especially)! Our team had a blast participating in the shows and meeting hundreds of newly engaged couples from the Cleveland, Akron, Canton and surrounding areas.

The Fashion Show:

The Today’s Bride fashion shows have become a ‘must-see’ attraction at the Today’s Bride shows and for the past eight years, we have been proud to be their exclusive entertainment and audio-visual partner.

At this year’s’ fashion show, Rock The House’s own DJ Flightz and MC Nick Duvé kept the energy going for both the models and the audiences.  Over 70 fashions from 10 different companies graced this years runway! Spotify even had a spike in tags that day from the audience searching for the amazing mashup mixes we selected.

Our Built-“Up” Booth:

Now, as an exhibitor, we wanted to stand out from the crowd and be seen from all areas of the convention centers. So, we decided to build UP!  Yes, we were the first two-story exhibit at a Today’s Bride bridal show.

Today's Bride Booth

We incorporated marquee L-O-V-E letters, chandeliers and uplighting to create a fun and unique booth. The DJ spinning tunes on the second floor was the cherry on top (literally)!

The Today’s Bride Show Manager, Jennifer Fyffe, said it best:

“Rock The House, you set your own bar higher every year. This year was no exception. Not only did you win the Best Booth Award, you won Best-in-Show. Truly a show-stopper remembered by all!”

Oh, and the best part of it all? We’ve got it on video! Go ahead, check it out!

Famous Couples And Their First Songs

First Dance Songs at Celebrity Couples’ Weddings

Having a wedding is an exciting time for any couple’s life. Since it signifies the start of their lives together as husband and wife, they need to go through with all the traditional events in the wedding ceremony and reception. As such, the need to plan the wedding details carefully arises, particularly the key parts of the wedding such as the exchange of vows, first kiss, cake cutting, and the first dance.

ObamasDance

When it comes to the first dance, Rock The House knows it is important to choose a song that relates to your relationship as a couple. Especially since there are plenty of different songs to choose from, you need to go through with some of your options and decide the one that best speaks to you and your fiancé.

Another way you can choose your first dance song is to go for the commonly used ones. While there are the obvious favorites, there are some songs that are new and have not been used as much. At the same time, you may also follow the songs used by celebrity couples during their first dance. Here are some of these songs:

Nick Lachey + Vanessa Minnillo – A Kiss to Build a Dream On by Steve Tyrell

Drew Barreymore + Will Kopelman – No One’s Gonna Love You by Band of Horses

Mark Zuckerberg + Priscilla Chan – Last Night on Earth by Green Day

Joel Madden + Nicole Richie – What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

Carrie Underwood + Mike Fisher – Love Never Fails by Brandon Heath

Beyonce + Jay-Z – Crazy In Love by Beyonce and Jay-Z

David Beckham + Victoria Adams – It Had To Be You by The Starlight Orchestra

President Barack Obama + Michelle Robinson – You and I by Stevie Wonder

Kate Middleton + Prince William – Your Song by Elton John (performed by Ellie Goulding)

Which of these songs would you want to use for your own first dance?

Incredible Team, Incredible Results: A Cleveland Bar Mitzvah Success Story

Riddle me this: What’s blue and orange and FUN all over? A successful Bar Mitzvah at Porsche of Beachwood, of course! This high-end party was produced by creative visionary, Joe Mineo, of Something New Events in Canfield, Ohio and he decided to bring Rock The House along for the ride!

On May 23, 2015, Porsche of Beachwood was transformed from a luxury car dealership to a colorful, high-energy explosion of creative décor, entertainment, lighting, food, family, and friends. Rock The House provided DJ entertainment, staging, lighting, and Rock Shots Ultimate Basketball Pop A Shot Rental (our newest 4 player interactive digital basketball game).

Lead technician and DJ for the night, Alex Kay, was able to paint a great picture for us of the extravagant lighting display Rock The House created: “We suspended a 90’ truss spine in the middle of the ceiling which spanned almost the entire length of the service bay. We were able to use this as a base for various moving lights, TVs, and fog machines, which added a lot of depth and dimension to the room. The truss spine really created a complete environment and made the entire room feel like a party!”

Our energetic and enthusiastic entertainment team was the perfect for this unique event and offered a great mix of interaction and excitement for all age groups present. With a plethora of activities from photo booths and tattoos to the ice cream truck for dessert there was no way to have anything less than a GREAT time!

Lead by the amazing team at Something New Events along with the support of fellow vendors Rock The House, RED The Steakhouse/Moxie, and Steve Hacker, this Bar Mitzvah was certainly an event to be remembered!
