Rock The House Annual Meeting A Huge Success!

RTH Combines Fun and Humility to Beat Competition

rth group test 2

If your first thoughts once you realize you’ve been scheduled a 9 to 5 on a Sunday include the idea of cashing in one of your sick days, then you don’t work for Rock The House.

From the moment RTH team members arrived at their annual All-Staff meeting, the stage was set for something more colorful than your typical yearly staff assembly. Team members, who on this day felt more like guests of honor, were politely encouraged to meet and greet with folks they hadn’t met yet over coffee and an array of breakfast muffins.

For members like myself, it was a chance to put names to faces that – to that point – I had only shared emails with. For others, it was an opportunity to relive memories with someone they hadn’t worked with in a long time. Perhaps even as long as last year’s Annual Kickoff Meeting.

“The production team spared no time or resources when designing the audio, video, and lighting design. We do this for a living, but it was an exciting opportunity to put what we do into action for our own team.”  RTH Founder & CEO Matt Radicell

Two giant video screens accented both sides of the elevated stage, and there was enough lighting to host a respectable New Year’s Eve party. The stage, which was at least two feet off the ground, looked more prepped for a rock concert than a company meeting. There were a half dozen sets of high-end, and very loud, speakers strategically scattered throughout the Event Hall of downtown Cleveland’s Red Space, the perfect setting for such an event. The stage also featured a see-through glass bowl that was introduced to members as ‘the question bowl‘. Throughout the day teammates were encouraged to write relevant questions with the provided pen and notepad and were promised an answer by RTH managers at some point during the day. The effect was two-pronged; it allowed the meeting to flow smoothly with minimal interruption, and it allowed every person in the room a chance to ask whatever they wanted and receive a genuine response before they left.

Red Space, created by Hot Cards is a unique open gallery designed to host a variety of different events. According to isescleveland.com,”This raw and open space is perfect for eclectic events looking for something different.” Red Space has hosted everything from conferences and weddings to art shows and wine tastings. It truly allows the client to dictate the setting. It was a perfect fit for Rock The House.

Now, Let’s Get Hands On

The all day affair didn’t just entail team building exercises and listening to speeches. Peppered into the afternoon activities was a little hands on training that proved to be very beneficial to rookies and veterans alike.

Another point of the meeting was to stress the importance of attention to detail. Hanging drape is an essential component of a multitude of RTH shows, and a brief re-teaching course of how to do it was an inevitable stop along the map of the days activities. A recap of the terminology paired with some  secret tips and tricks allowed team members to pick up on a few things they either didn’t know, forgot, or just were never formally taught. The heights and weights of the drapes used in some shows can be substantial, and the short learning session can be considered a safety issue if nothing else.

Carnival Cruise Director Eric Brouman was brought in to offer some of the core values coveted by his employer. The theme of this interaction was to highlight what Brouman called ‘being on‘, stressing positive attitudes and professional appearances the moment team members walk into an event.  As expected, the similarities between the two entertainment company’s were bountiful. As part of his module, RTH members were split into two groups and instructed to come up with their own core values. After the lists were compiled each team voted on their favorite codes. A brief discussion and video recap highlighted Brouman’s segment.

While Sunday’s meeting had all the flair of a high profile party, the intent and attention to detail provided much more than your regular company meeting. We laughed. We learned. We focused our energy on one goal; being the best and becoming better.

Throughout the day it was apparent that Rock The House was a company built by people that genuinely care about their members. For myself it felt like more than just a typical work meeting, it felt like a celebration.

Vegas Bar Mitzvah with…Lady Gaga?

On September 3, 2011, Cleveland, Ohio DJ and Lighting Team produced a full-scale event that you have to see to believe!

The theme? Las Vegas.

Las Vegas means you have to go BIG! Rock The House did just that…and more. As a special surprise to the guests, Rock The House created a custom performance with a national touring Lady Gaga impersonator with our dance team to create a custom performance for the crowd.

Our DJ / MC team kept the guests on the dance floor (who weren’t gambling) throughout the whole event.

All of our divisions were included in this event. Our lighting team was a big part of this event. This event included feature lightingspotlights for the stage, uplightspinspotting, and gobo monograms all controlled by our on-hand lighting designer.

Our Green Screen Photo Magic included a variety of props and was a big hit at the event. Guests were able to leave the event with a custom favor of their own design.

This event was captured by one of our talented videographers who knew every aspect of the event and where to be to capture it.

With additional services such as Cryo Co2 Blastclub-style DJ booth, and custom staging, this event had it all.

From large events (like this) to smaller more intimate parties, Rock The House is your resource.

Rock The House Joins The Internet Blackout

On January 18th, 2012, Many of the most popular websites on the Internet took the day to protest the House Bill “SOPA” (Stop Online Piracy Act) and the Senate Bill “PIPA Act”. Some websites closed completely while others placed black bars over their logos. The campaign promotes the ending of online piracy but not at the expense of liberties.

Rock The House would like you to sign the petition to kill these bills before they even have a chance to be voted on.

In solidarity, Rock The House has blacked out it’s logo on our website for the day.

Cleveland Holiday Party Entertainment

By Guest Blogger, Melinda Carter

For many people who host parties, the planning process can certainly end up bringing on a lot of pressure and difficulty. Taking care of the entertainment aspect of a large party, specifically, a holiday event can be the source of a lot of stress for a party planner. Even for some smaller occasions, thinking about hiring DJ and entertainment source may seem odd to some, but having music entertainment can not only ensure a good time but also reduce stress for holiday party planners.

For large scale holiday events, ensuring that there is good music and entertainment can sometimes be a major roadblock, especially if the party planner isn’t that familiar with sound systems. This is aside from the fact that the planners already have to worry about guests, food, activities and a host of other items to take care of.

Corporate holiday events offer a great chance to use a DJ for music entertainment. While the awards or speaking portion of these events won’t usually have a DJ, music is often a necessity for these types of parties where employees can bring their significant others for an enjoyable company party. Having a DJ at holiday corporate events allows the opportunity to create the social atmosphere that’s needed to make for a successful celebration.

Community holiday parties and large scale holiday parties can also benefit greatly with a DJ on hand. Whether it’s a Christmas party for a local organization or a large scale New Year’s celebration, having a DJ sets a great backdrop for a good gathering. One excellent trend in the area lately is the increase in community events at Columbus apartment complexes and neighborhood activity centers. These types of gatherings tend to bring in plenty of attendees from the area. Having a DJ in these activity centers will take care of the music portion, while event planners can handle the rest of the activities with minimal stress.

Of course, the necessity of a DJ is not just limited to holiday parties. As 2012 gets into full swing, wedding season will come along, as well as a host of other types of corporate parties and events where a DJ would be a great addition. In the end, a DJ can help make the gathering more memorable by adding good entertainment and lightening the planning.

Cleveland Event Lighting at The Sarah Benedict House

Cleveland Lighting DJs, Rock The House, were honored to be chosen as the lighting designers on December 15, 2011 by Personal Touch by Covesa event planners. This event was held at the historic Sarah Benedict House in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The event’s goal was to show the venue off to prospective clients for event space rental. Along with Rock The House, a small number of select preferred event professionals were asked to participate in this showcase.

Rock The House was able to create a custom look for this event through lighting design. Our uplights throughout the building created a really warm look for guests. In addition to the lighting design inside the facility, we were also able to create a visually interesting look on the facade of the building as well. Since the event took place in December, we were decided to project a snowflake design on the building with our gobos.
